Anti-Maoist operations

UMEED portal

Quantum Communication
- India could achieve satellite-based quantum communication by 2030, according to IIT-Delhi Professor Bhaskar Kanseri, following India’s longest free-space quantum key distribution (1 km) without cables.
- Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) enables ultra-secure communication using entangled photons and quantum mechanics principles.
- Satellite-based QKD can enable long-range secure communication, overcoming the cost and distance limits of fibre optics.
- Free-space QKD in Delhi NCR faces challenges due to atmospheric turbulence and pollution, causing signal divergence and error.
- China demonstrated QKD via satellites as early as 2017, putting it ahead globally.
- India’s QKD progress is at proof-of-concept (POC) stage, with IIT-Delhi leading experiments through student-led teams.
India ramped up oil imports from Russia
- India ramped up oil imports from Russia and the U.S. in June 2025, with Russian crude hitting 2–2.2 million barrels/day, surpassing combined imports from West Asia amid West Asian instability.
- India’s Russian oil imports now form 40–44% of total crude imports — up from <1% pre-2022 (pre-Ukraine war).
- U.S. crude imports also rose significantly to 4.39 lakh barrels/day (from 2.8 lakh in May 2025).
- Instability in the Strait of Hormuz due to the Israel-Iran conflict has pushed India to diversify away from West Asia.
- Russian oil avoids the Hormuz chokepoint, routed via the Suez Canal, Cape of Good Hope, or the Pacific Ocean.
- India is the world’s 3rd largest oil importer, purchasing ~5.1 million barrels/day for domestic refining.
